The G20 Development Working Group (DWG) met virtually on June 17, 2020 to further discuss the DWG 2020 priorities that are: Financing for Sustainable Development, Quality Infrastructure for Regional Connectivity, Modernizing the Accountability Framework and Riyadh Update on G20 contribution to 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In addition, the DWG discussed the G20 Action Plan in response to COVID-19 in Africa and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
As a result of COVID-19 impact, the global economy is contracting, and the LDCs that are vulnerable to severe social and economic distress are particularly impacted. The G20 Action Plan in response to COVID-19 in Africa and LDCs lays out G20 commitments towards concrete collective actions to help Africa and LDCs meet the essential needs of the most vulnerable, control the pandemic and its impacts, and set the path for recovery.
The DWG strives to strengthen the G20 contribution to the 2030 Agenda; give more visibility, credibility, and effectiveness of the G20 efforts; and uphold continuity and consistency in G20 actions.
